Low usage of antimicrobial drugs in companion animals and horses

The SDa released the reports on usage of antimicrobial drugs in companion animals and horses. The SDa drew up these reports following a request by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The survey shows that the usage of antimicrobial drugs in companion animals and horses is low. The DDDADAP in 2014 for companion animals was 2.6 and for horses 0.56. The usage has decreased in the period 2012- 2014 by 17.2% in companion animals and 24% in horses. The usage of third-choice antimicrobial drugs decreased to 0.189 DDDADAP in companion animals and 0.013 DDDADAP in horses over the 3-year period.
